Wrongly confiscated watch recovered

Has your Rolex, Seiko, or other luxury watch been confiscated by customs? Was your jewelery taken from you upon entry? Have goods been illegally confiscated from you by customs? Have you been waiting a long time for a response from customs? Do you feel unlawfully treated by the customs office?
Dr Klammer was able to recover a Rolex watch worth 14,000 euros that had been wrongly confiscated by customs and belonged to a doctor from Dubai. The watch was wrongly taken from our client during a visit to Austria at the airport. Although our client was only visiting Austria, the customs authorities confiscated his Rolex. Dr Klammer was able to solve this situation quickly and easily and gave our client back his rightful possession.

Import regulations
in Austria

The import regulations in Austria are very clearly regulated, if you want to import a watch bought abroad and you live in the EU, you not only have to pay an import sales tax of 19%, but also customs duties and security deposits.

However, non-EU tourists are exempt from these regulations.

Exception to import regulations

Tourists who do not come from the EU are exempt from the import regulations as long as they have the goods in their private possession and take the goods back to their home country. In our case, our client has a residence card in the EU but does not reside here. Nevertheless, customs are very happy to confiscate the expensive goods in such a case and, in the worst case, not return them.

What is import sales tax?

The import sales tax comes into play when goods from third countries, i.e. countries outside the EU, are imported into Austria. Since these goods are exempt from sales tax, which means they would be cheaper than goods from Austria or the EU, the sales tax must be paid as import sales tax.
