Working as a student in Austria
Getting a job in Austria is the first step in gaining the work experience you need. However, the student who wants to work in Austria has to consider some important aspects before starting his new position.
Prior approval of AMS)
The student will start their new job when their work permit is pre-approved. Otherwise, both the employer and the student would be breaking the law and jeopardizing the student's visa.
Forms of employment as students
There are currently 2 options for students to work in Austria.
1. maximum 10 hours per week (minor)
2. Between 11 and 20 hours per week (part time).
10 hours maximum and a low salary?
In 2023, students must not earn more than €500.91 per month in order to remain exempt from contributions and taxes. This is the current de minimis limit.
Part-time students are only allowed to work between 11 and 20 hours per week. There are no salary limits for this type of employment.
